HISTORY
Since 670 years the Schätzel family is growing wine on the Rhine river. It was always the focus to adapt and honor the outstanding terroires and climate. Since 2015 Schätzel is member of the exclusive growers club VDP and today Kai Schätzel is vice president of VDP.Rheinhessen.
GROWING
Schätzel winery works organic and biodynamic in the steep red slopes. Schätzel is a pioneer in climate adaption strategies in the region. Herbs and flowers are growing in between the wines. The rows are narrow and low to create a healthy shadow that is slowing down the ripeness and saves water.
WINEMAKING
The grapes are carefully picked and selected by hand. The fermentation with natural wild yeasts in old oak barrels supports the individual character of the wines.
3X3
All the wines are extremly lightweight and deliver an impressing ageing potential. Schätzel has created 3 unique styles: natural wine, classical dry Riesling and fruity refreshing Kabinett wines. Each style is available in 3 VDP.Classifications: VDP.GUTSWEIN (estate), VDP.AUS ERSTEN LAGEN (premier cru) and VDP.GROSSE LAGE (grand cru). The result is a clear and consequent portfolio: 3X3 wines.
"Schätzel is one of the most exciting and interesting new developments in German wine culture." - Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker
