The women of the Willems family are now the 5th generation to run the business. Since their wedding in 2006, Carolin (nee Willems) and Jürgen Hofmann have united their two wineries - the Hofmann winery in Rheinhessen and the WillemsWillems winery at the Mosel (Saar) - under the motto “Slate meets limestone”.
Carolin attaches great importance to natural, environmentally friendly viticulture at both sites. Both wineries have been certified organic since the 2022 vintage. Their wines are characterized by a clear, mineral style that reflects the different terroirs - slate on the Saar and shell limestone in Rheinhessen. Surrounded by slopes and thus protected from the winds, the climate at the Saar is almost Mediterranean. The slate soils give the region's wines their minerality and fine fruit.
The heart of Miguel Louro, the Portuguese winery manager at the Saar riverside, beats for refined, crystalline Saar Rieslings from top vineyards like Oberemmeler Altenberg, Niedermenninger Herrenberg and Ockfener Bockstein, whose juiciness and minerality whet the appetite for more.
“In harmony and
gratitude with nature.”
CAROLIN WILLEMS
Carolin's focus is a balanced soil, old vines, lots of
fun and trust in the forces of nature to bring Love
into the glass. Great wine ratings from national and
internationally e.g. from Parker and James Suckling
celebrate the two.
